It isn't automatically the best technique for every pair of lips. Existing anatomy, previous filler and the result you want all need to be considered before deciding whether a Russian lip technique is appropriate.

Cheek filler can be used to enhance cheekbone definition, replace volume or improve the contours of the mid-face.

However, more filler does not automatically mean more lift. Placement and facial anatomy are particularly important when treating this area.

Tear trough filler, also known as under-eye filler, is designed to add carefully controlled volume to selected areas beneath the eyes.

However, not every under-eye concern is caused by volume loss.

Pigmentation, skin quality, fluid retention, prominent eye bags and facial anatomy can all affect the appearance of the under-eye area. This means tear trough filler is not necessarily the right treatment for everyone.

Your under-eye area should therefore be assessed individually before treatment is recommended.

What Makes a Good Dermal Filler Result?

Dermal Filler FAQs

What is the difference between dermal filler and Sculptra® ?

Although both are injectable aesthetic treatments, dermal fillers and  Sculptra® work differently.

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers primarily provide volume and contour through the placement of an injectable gel. This makes them useful when we want to directly enhance a feature such as the lips, cheeks, chin or jawline.

 Sculptra®  contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and works as a collagen biostimulator. Rather than simply creating volume with a gel, it stimulates the body's collagen production over time.

The results therefore develop differently. Dermal filler may be chosen when precise contouring or feature enhancement is wanted, whereas Sculptra may be considered when the treatment goal is gradual collagen stimulation and broader improvement in facial volume.

In some treatment plans, the two can have different but complementary roles.

How long do dermal fillers last?

There is no single duration for every filler treatment.

Longevity varies according to the product used, treatment area, amount injected and individual factors. Lip filler, for example, may behave differently from filler placed in areas such as the cheeks or chin.

Your practitioner can discuss expected longevity for the particular treatment being considered.

What are Russian lips?

Russian lips refers to a lip-filler technique associated with creating greater vertical height and definition, particularly around the Cupid's bow.

The technique produces a different aesthetic from simply adding generalised lip volume and may not be suitable for every lip anatomy.

What is the difference between Russian lip filler and normal lip filler?

The difference is primarily in the injection approach and desired shape.

Traditional lip filler may focus on overall volume, border definition and proportion, whereas Russian lip filler generally places greater emphasis on vertical height and a defined lip shape.

Neither technique is inherently "better". The appropriate approach depends on your existing lips and desired result.

How much lip filler do I need?

There isn't a universal amount.

The appropriate quantity depends on your existing lip volume, anatomy, previous treatments and the degree of enhancement you want. More product does not necessarily produce a better aesthetic result. We do not do more than 1ml per session.

Can lip filler look natural?

Yes. Lip enhancement can be extremely subtle.

Treatment can focus on shape, hydration, border definition or proportion rather than creating significantly larger lips.

Can I have lip filler if I already have filler?

Potentially, but previous filler should be discussed during consultation.

Your practitioner will want to know when you were previously treated, what product was used if known and whether you have experienced any problems with the area.

What does cheek filler do?

Cheek filler can add or restore volume and enhance the contours of the cheekbones and mid-face.

Instead of focusing exclusively on one feature, the practitioner assesses how areas such as the nose, lips, chin, cheeks and jawline relate to one another.

What is profile balancing?

Profile balancing focuses particularly on the proportions visible from the side.

Depending on individual anatomy, this may involve treatment of the chin, lips, nose or other areas to create greater harmony between facial features.

What is a non-surgical rhinoplasty?

A non-surgical rhinoplasty uses dermal filler to alter the visual contour of the nose.

It may also be called nose filler or liquid rhinoplasty. Because the treatment adds rather than removes volume, it has different capabilities and limitations from surgical rhinoplasty.

Can nose filler make my nose smaller?

Dermal filler cannot physically make the nose smaller because it does not remove tissue.

However, altering particular contours may change how the nose appears visually. Whether this is achievable depends on the individual's anatomy and desired result.

What is tear trough filler?

Tear trough filler is an injectable treatment used to add volume to selected areas beneath the eyes where hollowing contributes to shadowing.

It is also commonly called under-eye filler.

Are dark circles always treated with tear trough filler?

No. Dark circles can have several causes, including pigmentation, hollowing, skin characteristics and shadowing.

This is why an assessment is important before deciding whether tear trough filler is an appropriate treatment.

Can I have several areas of filler at the same appointment?

Depending on the individual treatment plan, multiple facial areas may be considered together.

For patients interested in full-face balancing, treating complementary areas can allow the face to be assessed as a whole rather than treating each feature independently.

When will I see my dermal filler results?

Changes from hyaluronic acid filler can usually be seen immediately, although the appearance immediately following treatment is not necessarily the final result because temporary swelling can occur.

How do I choose between filler and Sculptra?

It depends on what you want to achieve.

If your priority is precise shaping or enhancement of a feature such as the lips, chin or jawline, dermal filler may be considered.

If the aim is gradual collagen stimulation across a broader area, Sculptra may be considered.
