About Botulinum toxin A
Botulinum toxin A, most commonly referred to by the brand name Botox®, is similar to dermal fillers in that it is a non-invasive, non-surgical way to mitigate unwanted wrinkles and fine lines on the face. Botulinum toxin A works by temporarily paralyzing nerves in the facial muscles. That may sound scary to some but it’s actually quite harmless. You see, fine lines and wrinkles are created by the constant flexing of the muscles of the face which causes facial skin to bunch up and crease. With the nerve paralyzed the muscle is unable to flex and the result is smoother skin.
Botulinum toxin A has many benefits over cosmetic surgery:
1. Completely non-invasive
2. Reduces the outward signs of ageing
3. Produces a more defined and sculpted profile
4. Reduces crows feet, laugh lines, marionette lines, forehead lines and more
5. Results last several months
6. Virtually no side effects
About Dermal Fillers
Whereas botulinum toxin A works by paralyzing the nerves of certain facial muscles dermal fillers achieve essentially the same effects without affecting any aspect of your system. Dermal fillers are inert compounds injected into strategic points on the face to reduce wrinkles, smooth out worry lines and nasolabial folds and sculpt both nose and chin lines.
Like botulinum toxin, dermal fillers are non-invasive, non-surgical and completely safe. With both treatments, you can resume your normal daily routine immediately after treatment, but with dermal fillers, you will see results faster than with botulinum toxin A, which may take a couple of weeks before results manifest.
There are several different types of dermal fillers but the most popular is hyaluronic acid, a compound that occurs naturally in the human body and produces no odious side effects. In time the hyaluronic acid is simply absorbed by the body, requiring the client to come in for a “top up”.
